Now the whole earth had one language and few words. And as men migrated from the east, they found a plain in the land of Shinar and settled there (…) Then they said, “Come, let us build ourselves a city, and a tower with its top in the heavens, and let us make a name for ourselves, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth.” Genesis 11:1-5

Men have always dream to go beyond the stars, as far as they can possible go, because they are always looking for more. Genesis means origin. This chapter – inside the most sold book of the world- starts with: the creation of the sky and earth, the first marriage, the origin of death, the birth of family, the beginning of everything. Babel tower is an example of how man is continuously trying to reach for the stars; the beginning of religion.

Before Babel, according to the Bible, every generation spoke the same language, this meant, they could be organized in an easier way. God ordered man to spread out and fill the Earth. The destiny of the Babel generation was to go around the world and fulfill this commandment. (Genesis 1:9). The starting point of religion is disobedience when people decided to remain in the place and began the construction of the tower. They called it Babel.

Babel means God’s door (Bab, stands for door and el for God). The real intention was trying to touch the sky and hence, reach God. Nothing will let them down.  Then, God decided to mix men’s language and stop the construction. He was not expecting to see them arriving to heaven on their own way. Religion invites to do personal actions to arrive to heaven. Religion does not mean God. This relationship between God and mankind is a day by day relation. Going to church does not make you a Christian, thus, standing in a garage does not make you a car.

God puzzle the original language and the main purpose was done: the people were long-drawn-out because no one could understand his neighbors. So they started to spread all around as He said before. God uses all things to achieve his purposes and He invites you to reach your destination in His own way, not yours.
